Please meet Susan and her garden. Susan has been dealing with ovarian cancer for the last six years and has gone through many severe treatments. Her husband Gerhard has stood by her side like a rock, bringing her to appointments, sitting with her through treatments, looking after her at home as she was recovering and trying to stay on top of the housework. Now they are both exhausted.
Meanwhile their garden – which used to be their sanctuary – is suffering and starts to be overgrown. Susan says it depresses her to even look at it. That doesn’t seem right, does it? So. Let’s put our hands together, roll up our sleeves and get to work to clean up Susan’s garden so she gets joy out of her outdoor spaces again!
Things you’ll do on the day
The garden is well established. It just needs weeding and mulching. You’ll be pulling out weeds, raking, brooming and brushing and just general tidying up. If available, we’ll do some mulching as well so that the weeds stay away much longer. Basically, just a bit of hard work and a whole heap of dirty hands!
You don’t need any experience to help out with this project. Agood mood, some muscle and a bit of energy will do!
Note: this is an outdoor project and volunteers should be mindful of the weather conditions in summer. Bring plenty of water and use appropriate sun protection.
THIS PROJECT STARTS EARLY IN THE MORNING, COLD DRINKS AND SOME LIGHT REFRESHMENTS WILL BE PROVIDED.
THIS PROJECT IS SUITABLE FOR KIDS!
